New Season, Different Routine, Same Commitment: How to Stay Consistent With Your Wellness Goals
As September gives way to October, Angela C. Richardson shares how adjusting your fitness routine, returning to healthy basics and recognizing your progress can help you stay committed when life and schedules change.

September has been a month of resetting, refocusing, and reminding ourselves that a new season doesn't mean we have to start over.
For me, September brought a different schedule and new physical goals. I kept moving throughout the summer, but as fall approached, I knew it was time to make some adjustments.
I went back to lifting heavier and added running to my routine. My goal was to challenge myself physically while continuing to work toward the goals I had already set for myself.

But fitting everything into my new schedule hasn't always been easy.
There were days when I had to figure out when I could work out, how long I could train, and how to make adjustments without feeling like I had missed something.
And that's the lesson September has given me:
Your routine can change without your commitment changing.

Reset Without Starting Over
Sometimes we hear the word "reset" and think we have to start from the beginning.
You don't.
A reset can simply mean taking a look at what's working, what's no longer working, and what needs to change.
You can keep the lessons you've learned.
You can keep the habits you've built.
You can keep your goals.
You may just need a different approach.
Reset your routine. Don't reset your progress.

Back to the Basics
When life becomes complicated, go back to the basics.
Move your body.
Strength train.
Get your steps in.
Drink your water.
Eat nourishing foods.
Get enough rest.
Make time to take care of your mental and emotional wellness.
You don't always need a new program or a complicated plan.
Sometimes the basics, done consistently, are exactly what you need.

Discipline Looks Different in Every Season
September also reminded me that discipline doesn't always look the same.
During one season, you may have plenty of time for long workouts.
During another, you may only have 30 minutes.
You may have to change your workout days.
You may have to train at a different time.
You may need to modify your workout.
That doesn't mean you're less committed.
Discipline means finding a way to keep moving forward.
Instead of saying, "I don't have time for my regular workout," ask yourself:
"What can I do with the time I have?"
That simple change in mindset can make a big difference.

Don't Forget How Far You've Come
As September comes to an end, I want you to pause before immediately focusing on what's next.
Look at how far you've come.
Think about the days you showed up.
Think about the habits you've built.
Think about the workouts you completed.
Think about the times you adjusted instead of quitting.
Think about the things your body can do now that may have been difficult before.
Progress isn't always found on the scale.
Sometimes it's stronger muscles.
Better endurance.
More energy.
Improved confidence.
A healthier mindset.
Or simply knowing that you can face a challenging season without giving up on yourself.
Celebrate that.

Your Goals Don't Have to Change
One of the biggest reminders from this month is that you can change the way you work toward a goal without changing the goal itself.
Your long-term goals still matter.
Your short-term goals still matter.
But your strategy may need to evolve.
If your schedule changes, adjust.
If your routine isn't working, adjust.
If your goals become bigger, challenge yourself.
If you need more recovery, give yourself permission to recover.
Adjust your routine without changing your goals.

Your October Reminder
As we prepare to move into another month, don't feel like you have to reinvent yourself.
Take what worked from September.
Leave behind what didn't.
Keep the habits that support you.
Continue working toward your goals.
And give yourself grace when life requires you to adjust.
My September reminder to myself is simple:
New season. Different routine. Same commitment to myself.
I don't have to do everything perfectly.
I just have to keep showing up.

Coach's Challenge
Before October begins, write down these three things:
1. What am I proud of from September?
2. What do I need to adjust going into October?
3. What goal am I refusing to give up on?
Keep those answers somewhere you can see them.
Let them remind you that your wellness journey isn't about being perfect.
It's about continuing to choose yourself, season after season.

Final Reminder
September may be ending, but your journey isn't.
You are allowed to change your routine.
You are allowed to set new goals.
You are allowed to challenge yourself.
You are allowed to slow down when you need to.
And you are allowed to keep going even when your progress doesn't look exactly the way you imagined.
Don't start over every time life changes. Adjust. Refocus. Recommit.
Look how far you've come.
Then take that progress with you into the next season.
New season. Different routine. Same commitment.
