Yvette Soto, the third Democratic candidate, was unsuccessful. She received 4,942 votes, finishing narrowly behind Republican Duputy Mayor Carl Pitale, who won with 5,101 votes.
"I'm overwhelmed," Dr. Witherspoon said on election night. "We are going to continue to represent everybody. Once you win it's all about the residents and it's all about the township."
Thompson, who campaigned on community engagement and expanding township activities, also thanked supporters for believing in her.
"I'm a little nervous," But I'm ready. I'm ready to learn and I'm ready to get to work."
Thompson will be sworn in on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Witherspoon said she was deeply grateful for the trust the residents of Hamilton Township placed in her. Witherspoon plans to continue the work of serving the seniors, strengthening youth programs and keeping Hamilton Township moving in the right direction, she said.
The Democratic slate campaigned as a unified team, focusing on fiscal responsibility, community services and economic development. In the final days of the campaign, U.S. Sen. Andy Kim rallied voters at the Hamilton Mall to support the ticket.
Hamilton Township Democratic Club President Laury-Ann Diaz said the outcome reflects a shift in voter priorities.
“This is a big moment for Hamilton Township,” Diaz said. “Residents are ready for collaborative, community-centered leadership.”
Election Day was Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025. Vote totals are unofficial until certified by the Atlantic County Board of Elections.
