Thousands Enjoy a Rainy 50th Odunde Celebration!

PHILADELPHIA — According to the organizers, the Odunde Festival is the largest and oldest ongoing street festival in America. For the past 50 years (sans Covid of course) the second Sunday of June has been a day for family, friends and people of all colors to meet at 23rd and South Streets in Philadelphia to celebrate community.

This year in celebration of 50 years it seemed that the rain might ruin the celebration. It didn't, as thousands still came out. Some with umbrellas and some welcoming the cool water as opposed to the high temperatures of past Odunde Celebrations.

Although it was reported early Sunday morning that co-headliner Rakim would not be able to appear. That did not stop the crowd from getting as close to the stage as possible to hear Doug E. Fresh perform his hits such as The Show.

Here he performs Keep Rising To The Top at Odunde 50.

If you've never attended Odunde? Make plans for next year.

Here's a picture post card of scenes from a rainy Odunde 50.
