The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, Bendon Publishing Edition
The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn from Bendon Publishing is suggested for readers seven years old and up. This version is adapted in a very easy to follow and quite compelling manner by Clay Stafford.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (a sequel to The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer) takes the reader back to a time before cell phones and TikTok.
When I first read it... my life had not even known the VCR.
First published in the United States in 1885, and set in the Missouri of that time (along The Mississippi River) the story takes readers back before television and radio.

I was always drawn to the characters of Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher because they lived in a world that had to be experienced first hand.
You could not "you tube" a frog or down load a virtual snake.
In Mark Twain's books the characters took you with them to catch and race frogs, to explore caves and sometimes to run from danger.
Growing up in Atlantic City, I was not going to build a raft and take my chances...but many an afternoon I wanted to. I would have given anything to have a frog race.
The Adventures Of Huck Finn has been in the public domain for years before I was born, so I do not know if I have ever read the original Mark Twain, text.
I have enjoyed the copy I have from my father's collection since I was about 14 years old. I was offended by the character of Nigger Jim. I also, however, was and still am, smart enough to understand the context of his name. I appreciate and understand why he is a part of The Adventures. I also was much more offended when certain editions including the one I am recommending here changed Nigger Jim's name. (In some post 80's editions Nigger Jim is removed altogether.)
My personal belief is that you cannot and should not write a period piece or memoir without the honest language of the moment. I do understand that everything is not for every one at every age. This edition does include the character just named Jim.

Ruth Palmer's illustrations are straight forward and some of the best illustrations of the story I have seen. (I have read the book about three times and I own several adaptations.)
For only a dollar you can add this American Classic to your library. Why not buy some for the young people in your life and read it together?
JUST FOR FUN
The Hanna Barbera Cartoon company did a live action/cartoon show called The New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Here's a clip and you can find the original series streaming on Amazon. (Not an endorsement, just an FYI.)
