PHILADELPHIA — On Saturday June, 7, 2025, public television station WHYY opened the doors of its Philadelphia studios for a series of discussions for Black Men in the Media.

The annual summit featured an accomplished group of award-winning journalists who discussed everything from their start to their health and their voice in media.


Highlights included a heart-to-heart conversation between Pulitzer winning journalist Trymaine Lee and Gene Demby (the host of the NPR program CODE SWITCH.)

Here Gene Demby asks Lee about having a heart attack during the writing of his book, A Thousand Ways to Die.

Here Lee discusses how he relates to a family history that includes having to deal with violence.

WHYY Vice President for News and Civic Dialogue Sarah Glover interviewed Irving Washington, board chair of the American Journalism Project and former CEO of the Online News Association in addition to Galen Gordon, executive producer for Straight Shooter Media and former senior vice president for talent strategy and development at ABC News about what it means to be a newsroom leader.

Here CBS national news anchor Anne-Marie Green discusses covering Philadelphia news with Rick Williams of 6 ABC and Don Bell of CBS (Philadelphia.)
