The milestone celebration honored Black culture, unity, and community at Stockton University through a long-standing Pre-Kwanzaa tradition.

Stockton University’s Unified Black Students Society Celebrates 50th Annual Pre-Kwanzaa Event

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – The Unified Black Students Society of Stockton University gathered on Friday December 5, 2025, in the Campus Center Event Room to celebrate 50 years of Kwanzaa on the campus.

Kwanzaa itself is a celebration and cultural tradition that gathers community to celebrate seven principles including: UMOJA-Unity, KUJICHAGUIA-Self-Determination, UJIMA-Collective Work and Responsibility, UJAMMA-Cooperative Economics, NIA-Purpose, KUUMBA-Creativity, IMANI-Faith.

The celebration included music, dance, the pouring of libations, the lighting of candles and recognition of community elders in attendance.

Lillian Nickens lead the gathered crowd in singing Lift Every Voice and Sing.

Members of the Unified Black Students Society gathered for The Candle Lighting

The Zawadi African Dance and Drum group held a performance.

There was a solo dance performance by Ms. Kiana Bryan.

Dr. Kimoni Yaw Ajani discussed The Importance Of Pouring Libation
