Johnny Mathis: The Voice of Romance to Give Farewell Concert in Bergen County
Johnny Mathis for many is the voice of the Christmas Holiday season.

Johnny Mathis is a truly an American institution. He is the voice of romance.
Johnny Mathis for many is the voice of the Christmas Holiday season.
Just thinking about his version of "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" fills me with cheer no matter what time of year I hear it.

I have many memories of Johnny Mathis from seeing him at Tropicana (and around Tropicana when I worked in marketing) to my clients telling me how great of a time they had at his show. I remember listening to the radio in 1978 when the single with Denice Williams, "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" was everywhere and I sang along with every word.
One of my favorite memories is being with my late father, Raymond Tyler Sr. and dad telling me. "Get some Johnny Mathis records boy. The ladies will love them...trust me."
Dad was right...Mathis had helped me set a mood with smooth recordings such as "Chances Are," "Misty," and "It's Not for Me to Say". The combination of Mathis's velvet smooth voice and delivery with the mood set by a full band/orchestra and moon light made for a very romantic evening.
Now after seven decades of romance, Mathis will be retiring from concerts and live performances. It was announced at his website www.JohnnyMathis.com last week that his final performance is scheduled for May 18, 2025, at the Bergen Performing Arts Center, in Englewood, NJ.
According to his press team, Mathis plans to celebrate his 90th birthday and enjoy his family and retirement.
I will always be happy to hear and share his music. I will be a little sad because God only made one Johnny Mathis. I am, however, very happy that he is retiring, and I wish him nothing but the best of life.
