Hindu Devotees Celebrate Lord Krishna’s Birthday in Atlantic City
Holy Janmashtami is regarded by many Hindu believers as the equavalent of Christmas.
ATLANTIC CITY — Holy Janmashtami — regarded by many Hindu believers as the spiritual equivalent of Christmas — was celebrated with great fervor on Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16, 2025, in the prayer halls of Sree Sree Gita Sangha at 109 North Florida Avenue and 1411 Penrose Avenue, Atlantic City.

The celebration included Adhibas, Krishna Puja (a Vedic ritual involving prayers and offerings to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna), and recitations from the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu scripture. These rituals formed the core of the two-day spiritual gathering.
According to Vedic scriptures, Lord Krishna — revered by many as the Supreme God of all gods — appeared as the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India.
“Just as Christmas marks the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, Janmashtami marks the divine appearance of Lord Krishna,” said community leader Subrata Chowdhury. “It is celebrated by Hindus around the world.”
“Hindus who are devoted to Krishna revere him as the Supreme Lord, who descended to Earth to dispel evil and spread the message of love and brotherhood,” Chowdhury added.

“On this day, devotees celebrate his divine pastimes, reflect on his presence in their lives, and renew their eternal, loving relationship with him — recognizing his presence within all of our hearts,” said Subrata Chowdhury.
