Celebrate the legacy of Michael I. Days at the NABJ-Philadelphia scholarship fundraiser on Aug. 5 at the Pen & Pencil Club while supporting future Black journalists.
PHILADELPHIA – NABJ-Philadelphia invites the community to celebrate the life and legacy of beloved founding president Michael I. Days with a mixer from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at the Pen & Pencil Club benefiting the Michael I. Days Scholarship Fund.
Join Mike's friends, colleagues, mentees and supporters to honor a remarkable journalist, mentor and leader who would have celebrated his 73rd birthday on Aug. 2. The Pen & Pencil Club was one of Mike's favorite gathering places, making it the perfect setting to honor him.
Since launching the scholarship fund in October 2025, supporters have helped us award two $2,000 scholarships to aspiring journalists while moving us closer to our $50,000 fundraising goal. A new $5,000 matching gift makes this the perfect time to help continue Mike's legacy.
This event also serves as a kickoff for members traveling to Atlanta for the annual NABJ Convention & Career Fair, the largest gathering of Black journalists in the world. Come reconnect with friends, enjoy food and fellowship, share memories and invest in the next generation of Black journalists.
