Coughlin, Calabrese Praise Kolluri’s Expanded Leadership Over NJ Transit and Turnpike Authority
Lawmakers cite continuity and coordination as New Jersey prepares for major global events

TRENTON — Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, chairman of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, are applauding Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill’s decision to retain Kris Kolluri as head of NJ Transit while expanding his responsibilities to include leadership of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
Both cited the importance of continuity as the state prepares for a historic moment on the world stage.

“From the very beginning of his service at New Jersey Transit, Kris Kolluri has been a tireless advocate for our state’s public transportation system,” Coughlin said in a statement. “I commend Governor-elect Sherrill’s decision to keep him in place, and naming him to lead the Turnpike Authority is a credit to the work already underway thanks to his leadership and experience.”
Coughlin emphasized that New Jersey’s transportation infrastructure is central to the state’s economy, keeping commuters connected and helping maintain the state’s competitive edge throughout the region. He noted that continuity in leadership will be especially critical as New Jersey prepares to host eight FIFA World Cup matches, including the tournament final—an undertaking that will require unprecedented coordination between transit systems and highways.
“As we stand on the cusp of an unprecedented coordination of our transit system and highways, continuity of leadership at New Jersey Transit is critical,” Coughlin said. “I look forward to working together to support the progress that keeps our state moving.”
Calabrese echoed those sentiments, describing Kolluri’s expanded role as a strategic step toward unified leadership across New Jersey’s largest transportation agencies.
“I commend Governor-elect Sherrill for selecting Kris Kolluri to continue leading New Jersey Transit and for expanding his responsibilities to include the Turnpike Authority,” Calabrese said. “This is a forward-thinking and strategic choice that reflects the need for unified leadership as New Jersey works to modernize its infrastructure and meet the needs of a growing and mobile population.”
Calabrese pointed to Kolluri’s extensive background in public transportation, including his service as New Jersey’s transportation commissioner, his leadership of the Gateway Development Commission, and his tenure at NJ Transit.
“Mr. Kolluri brings unmatched experience and a proven record of results,” Calabrese said. “He has demonstrated a deep understanding of our state’s complex transit systems and a strong commitment to improving them for commuters, businesses, and future generations.”
Both lawmakers said Kolluri’s dual appointment presents an opportunity to break down silos, streamline operations, and rethink how people and goods move across New Jersey, positioning the state to meet everyday transportation needs while preparing for large-scale international events and long-term infrastructure challenges.
