ART BEATS BOOK OF THE WEEK! DATE OF BIRTH POEMS BY SHAWN R. JONES

Shawn R. Jones, a graduate of Atlantic City High School, has a new collection of poems out which compromise this first book.

A collection/book so solid creatively/poetically that Date Of BIRTH POEMS won The Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize.

Date Of Birth Poems is an abundant collection of lived experiences set to poetry.
In just 68 pages, Jones takes us swimming at the beach, to dour and sad spots in Camden, to family events, and to relive her last memories with het mother (Atlantic City's) Ronda C. Fitzgerald.

At times, Date Of Birth Poems breaks new ground.
At times Date Of Birth Poems gives us a fresh tour of ground we've all walked before.

She is also the author of two chap books, Womb Rain and A Hole to Breathe. Her poems have appeared in Essence Magazine, New Ohio Press, TriQuarterly and elsewhere. Jones is also a graduate of The MFA program in Creative Writing at Rutgers-Camden.

DATE OF BIRTH POEMS is a quick read, but a filling and fulfilling read. No "throw away" or "lesser" poems. I read this rather quickly, I reflected on the words and experiences, the rides, falls and climbs. I then went back to read it at a more paced and deliberate effort and truly enjoyed this great book.

(Editor's Note: Dear authors, poets, graphic novelists. The Art Beats Book Club-BOOK OF THE WEEK will share and discuss books that range from fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, graphic novels, self help, cook books and more!
