A Man from Wawa Country Meets Sheetz: My First Visit to the Convenience Store South Jersey Is Talking About

After years of hearing the hype, Atlantic City Focus Arts and Entertainment Editor Raymond Tyler finally stopped at a Sheetz in Maryland. Here are five things he liked — and one thing that surprised him.

A Man from Wawa Country Meets Sheetz: My First Visit to the Convenience Store South Jersey Is Talking About
Although South Jersey is WA WA I Recently Enjoyed a Sheetz in Elkton, M.D

I remember the 1980's like it was 50 years ago. I'd go into a 7-11 grab a Slurpee and my favorite comic books. 7-11 was the place to grab and go for sodas, snacks, magazines, until it wasn't.

Today, I cannot tell you the last time I was in a 7-11. I have passed a few and felt nostalgic, but not nostalgic enough to go in.

Today, South Jersey is WA WA country for that grab and go experience. I do think that SHEETZ maybe coming soon.

I have heard about Sheetz from people down south but up until last week I never saw a Sheetz store.

I like Wawa because no matter where I find one...I know I am going to enjoy the chicken noodle soup and the breaded shorty. Last, Thursday morning I am in Elkton, MD to DJ my niece's graduation party and I ask my trusty GPS for the nearest Wawa.

The first thing to pop up was Sheetz.
Well to me this was like getting an invite to see a big foot.
I went on over and ....here are 5 Things I Like About Sheetz and maybe one thing I didn't.

OPEN 24 HOURS

Convenience, I was up early. I did not have to wait for the door to open or to make what I wanted to order.

CLEAN STORE

The Sheetz I went to in Elkton was not super busy but the store was well lit and very clean. I appreciated that.

FRIENDLY STAFF
Yes. I am like the people in the commercial that are slowly becoming "our parents." The staff at Sheetz were very chatty and friendly before 8am and I was here for it.

GAS PRICES

I hated pumping my own gas until I saw those prices. The prices on gas was cheap enough for me to pump it myself with minimal complaining. (New Jersey...never change.)

GREAT TASTING BURGER

Since Sheetz did not have anything close to my regular chicken sandwich, I went with a burger and fries.
The burger and the fries were fresh made and tasty. I was glad I did not have to wait until 10:30 or 11am...I want my burger when I want my burger. I got the double cheeseburger and it tasted great.

The only thing that threw me a curve was the prices for fresh fruit...however...we all know we always pay a tax for convenience.

Right now there are no Sheetz stores in Jersey...however my next trip to Maryland I will be back for more.
