Pennsylvania Avenue School Open House Strengthens Family-School Partnership in Atlantic City
Families joined school leaders on September 23 to embrace “Win the Day, Win the Week, Win the Year,” emphasizing attendance, daily habits and student success.
ATLANTIC CITY – Pennsylvania Avenue School welcomed families for its annual Open House on September 23, 2026, bringing parents, guardians, teachers and administrators together to begin the school year with a shared commitment to student success.
Principal Thomas Biggins and Vice Principal Dr. Nycole Lyles-Belton said they were thrilled with the strong parent participation and with seeing so many families in the building. They described Open House as an important opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the school and its families at the start of the year.
This year’s theme, “Win the Day, Win the Week, Win the Year,” highlights the role families play in supporting students. Biggins and Lyles-Belton are asking parents and guardians to reinforce at home the same daily expectations emphasized at school, including kindness, positive transitions, hard work, responsible decision-making, and friendship and community.
“Dr. Nyc and I value family engagement tremendously because we know that when families, staff, and students are all working together, our children have the greatest opportunity to be successful,” Biggins said. “That partnership is how we help our students Win the Day, Win the Week, and ultimately Win the Year!”
According to Biggins, that level of participation grows from the positive relationships administrators and staff build with families every day—during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, through regular communication, and at school and community events. He and Lyles-Belton want every family to feel welcomed, valued and connected to Pennsylvania Avenue School.
“When families feel welcomed and connected to their child’s school, we build a stronger foundation for learning,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. La’Quetta S. Small. “Pennsylvania Avenue School’s theme, ‘Win the Day, Win the Week, Win the Year,’ reminds us that success grows from the daily habits we nurture together. Every day a child arrives on time, every conversation between a parent and teacher, and every word of encouragement helps move our students forward.”
The event allowed families to meet teachers, learn about school expectations and begin the year focused on a common goal: helping every student succeed.
