ATLANTIC CITY - Rob Schwartz, co-founder/chief music officer of ACX1 Studios, had a plan to create an event that would give independent artists of various genres an opportunity to introduce their creativity to the general public and to network with fellow artists, media, and executives in the music industry.

The event was the MEMORIAL DAY BOARDWALK BASH, a FREE event that took place at ACX1 Studios (formally known as Ocean One Mall if you're old enough to remember) located at 1 Atlantic Ocean in Atlantic City on May 24, 2025.

The event was broadcast live on SPLASH 98.5 FM and was sponsored by ACX1 Music, Who?Mag Distribution. Some of the established artists that were on the line up included:

R&B Singer Gina Thompson performing her hit record, The Things You Do

Veteran Hip-Hop artist Craig G (of the world-famous Juice Crew collective), known for contributions on the classic rap song, The Symphony, as well numerous solo projects that includes his recent release The World Is Crooked in 2024.

Dinco D, founding member of Leaders of the New School, known for their debut album, A Future Without a Past, as well as contributing to A Tribe Called Quest's song, Scenario. Both, Craig and Dinco, appeared on arguably two of the all-time great posse records in hip-hop.

Iconic 80s Rap group Planet Patrol, famous for the groundbreaking record, Play at Your Own Risk.

Aside from introducing veteran artists to a new audience, the Boardwalk Bash was also a great opportunity for up and independent artists to perform. One such artist was Latin Pop singer Selene Salinas. She had great stage presence and her back up dancers had incredible energy.

The rap collective Federal District Empire was impressive with connecting to the audience. One of the most abstract performances was from the group Mill of Fire with artists Word Play, Fire Nation Flamez, and Kyng RM. They were definitely different in appearance and musical presentation that would be comparable to members of the Native Tongue or Dungeon Family collectives, respectively.

It was also good to see Philly rap veteran Supreem Da Rezarecta, a staple in the tri-state underground hip-hop scene. The performance line had more than 40 artists that were set to perform from 11am-5pm but the event went well past the scheduled time to accommodate all the performers. With so many performers on the line, the music in between each act and during the performances was skillfully navigated by the Untouchable DJs. The success of the BOARDWALK BASH will hopefully continue as an annual Memorial Day weekend event.
