Governor Mikie Sherrill Meets With Atlantic City Leaders to Discuss Tax Relief, Bader Field Redevelopment
First City Hall meeting with Mayor Marty Small Sr. focuses on economic development, crime reduction, and strengthening state-city partnership.
ATLANTIC CITY — Governor Mikie Sherrill visited the resort on March 3, 2026, for an hour-long meeting with local leaders at City Hall, marking her first in-person meeting with Mayor Marty Small Sr. since taking office as governor earlier this year.
During the meeting, the governor sat down with Mayor Small, Business Administrator Anthony Swan, City Council President Aaron “Sporty” Randolph and other senior city officials to discuss several priorities affecting Atlantic City residents and the city’s long-term growth.

Mayor Small said maintaining a strong partnership between Atlantic City and state government will be essential to moving those priorities forward.
“As we often say in the Small Administration, ‘relationships matter,’” Small said. “On behalf of the great City of Atlantic City, I pledged to be a strong and collaborative partner with Governor Sherrill. It is encouraging to see the governor’s confidence in DCA Commissioner Jacquelyn Suarez and her commitment to our shared priorities.”
Topics included sustained property tax relief for residents, redevelopment plans for Bader Field, the state’s payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) legislation, improvements along Atlantic Avenue, and strategies aimed at reducing violence and crime.
City leaders also discussed the importance of expanding programming for youth and senior citizens while strengthening collaboration with state agencies to support local initiatives.
Small added that the meeting gave the governor an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of both the opportunities and challenges facing Atlantic City.
“Atlantic City is on the edge of greatness,” Small said. “The governor now has a deeper understanding of both our opportunities and our challenges. We are grateful for her time, her willingness to listen, and her partnership.”

Governor Sherrill received a warm welcome from Atlantic City employees as she arrived at City Hall prior to the meeting.
The discussion reflected a broader effort by city officials to work closely with the state to advance redevelopment projects, strengthen public safety initiatives, and improve quality of life for Atlantic City residents.
