Debate Set Tonight for 2nd District Assembly Candidates

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — Voters in New Jersey’s 2nd Legislative District will have the chance to hear directly from their Assembly candidates tonight when the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University and The Press of Atlantic City co-host a public debate.

The forum begins at 7:00 p.m. in Stockton’s Campus Center Theatre, located at 101 Vera King Farris Drive. The event will be held before a live audience and livestreamed by both the Hughes Center and The Press. A recording will later be archived on the Hughes Center’s website for on-demand viewing.

Confirmed participants include Republican incumbents Don Guardian and Claire Swift, along with Democratic challengers Joanne Famularo and Maureen Rowan. Other candidates who meet the required campaign finance and reporting thresholds have also been invited.

Tina Zappile, director of the Hughes Center, said hosting the debate aligns with the center’s mission to encourage informed participation in the democratic process.

“These debates help voters make educated choices and exemplify our commitment to amplifying local voices, connecting residents with their elected officials, and providing a platform for rigorous policy dialogue,” Zappile said.

Alyssa Maurice, assistant director and head of Research and Polling at the Hughes Center, and Nicholas Huba, news and digital editor for The Press of Atlantic City, will serve as moderators. Members of the public were invited to suggest potential questions in advance, though only the moderators will pose questions during the debate.

The event is part of the Hughes Center’s ongoing effort to promote civic engagement across South Jersey and ensure voters have access to open, balanced discussions ahead of Election Day.
