City of Atlantic City Secures $1.33M Grant to Revamp Dolphin Field
Construction is slated to begin later this year and is expected to wrap up by next summer.

ATLANTIC CITY — Surrounded by players, coaches, and supporters of the Atlantic City Dolphins football organization, Mayor Marty Small, Sr. announced Wednesday that the City of Atlantic City has been awarded a $1.33 million Green Acres Program grant to significantly upgrade Dolphin Field.
The funds will support a wide array of improvements, including the installation of new turf, renovations to the concession stand and locker rooms, upgraded fencing and lighting, new goal posts, landscaping enhancements, and the addition of ADA accessibility features. Construction is slated to begin later this year and is expected to wrap up by next summer.

“This administration is once again investing in both our community and our youth,” said Mayor Small. “Our youth deserve this beautiful new field to play on, learn and grow. Our goal is to upgrade every single one of our facilities here in the Great City of Atlantic City, and now it’s Dolphin Field’s turn. If you think what we did with Pop Lloyd Stadium was magic, wait until you see what we’re about to do with Dolphin Field!”

The project builds on previous contributions to Dolphin Field, including a new scoreboard and additional funding donated by Hard Rock Atlantic City owner Joe Jingoli. In addition, the city has applied for a $250,000 grant from the National Football League to further support the project, and is currently awaiting a response.
Originally outfitted with FieldTurf in 2010, Dolphin Field’s artificial surface is now due for replacement after 15 years of wear and tear.
This latest announcement continues the Small Administration’s strong focus on revitalizing Atlantic City’s recreational facilities. Recent upgrades include the complete renovation of Pop Lloyd Stadium, improvements to Gardner’s Basin and the Atlantic City Aquarium, the opening of a new dog park, and newly resurfaced basketball and tennis courts at Altman Park. Green Acres funding is also being used to build Weekes Memorial Park on the 700 block of Indiana Avenue, expected to open by year’s end.

Through partnerships with the city’s four Community Development Corporations (CDCs), the Hydrangea Trail 2.0 initiative, and nonprofit Skate AC, additional beautification and activation projects are underway. The highly anticipated Uptown Skate Park at Melrose and Massachusetts Avenues is set to open this Friday.
