ATLANTIC CITY — The Bangladesh Association of Atlantic County hosted a celebration to honor newly elected Atlantic City Councilman-at-Large Mohammed Suhel Ahmed and re-elected School Board member Subrata Chowdhury following their victories in the November 4 municipal elections.

Ahmed made history as the first Bangladeshi American elected as Councilman-at-Large in Atlantic City. Chowdhury secured his third consecutive term on the Atlantic City Board of Education, becoming the first Asian American in city history to achieve a hat trick victory.

The reception included formal recognition, speeches, live music and a community dinner.

Bangladesh Association of South Jersey President Zahirul Islam Babul presided over the event, with Shahriar Ahmed serving as program host. Several community leaders delivered remarks, including Shahid Khan, Sabbir Hossain Bhuiyan, Abdur Rafiq, Rana Kabir, Azizul Islam Ferdous, Shamsul Islam Shahjahan, Ahsan Habib, Jasim Uddin, Amirul Islam Tofi, Biplob Dev and Kajol Sarkar.

Speakers thanked the Bangladeshi-American community for uniting behind the candidates and supporting the “Team Small” slate, contributing to Ahmed and Chowdhury’s wins.

During the ceremony, representatives of the Bangladesh Association of Atlantic County, the Bengal Club, the Jalalabad Association of South Jersey and other organizations presented floral bouquets to Ahmed and Chowdhury in recognition of their achievements.

Musical artist Asif Anwar performed at the event. The celebration concluded with a community dinner.
