Atlantic City to Bid Farewell to New Jersey Avenue School

ATLANTIC CITY — Alumni, former employees and community members are invited to gather one last time at the historic New Jersey Avenue School during a farewell ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 12:30 p.m.

The event will take place at the corner of New Jersey and Arctic avenues, where the nearly century-old school building has stood since the 1920s. Organizers say the program will honor the legacy of the school, which closed in 2012 following the opening of Pennsylvania Avenue School and was later damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

As part of the ceremony, keepsake bricks from the building will be made available to attendees while supplies last, allowing those with personal ties to the school to hold on to a tangible piece of its history.

District officials, including Superintendent of Schools Dr. La’Quetta S. Small, who began her career at New Jersey Avenue School, are expected to participate in the event. The school will be demolished to make way for a new administration building, part of Atlantic City Public Schools’ plan to modernize facilities.

The farewell ceremony is free and open to the public.
