ATLANTIC CITY — Students and educators from across the Atlantic City Public Schools district were recognized Thursday, May 7, during the Annual Spring Scholarship Luncheon hosted by the Atlantic City Metropolitan Business & Citizens Association.

The annual event brought together business leaders, educators, elected officials and community advocates to celebrate academic achievement, leadership and service among local students and teachers.

Six Atlantic City students received scholarships from various organizations affiliated with the association, while one district educator was honored for her impact in the classroom.

Atlantic City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. La’Quetta S. Small praised the honorees and highlighted the importance of continued partnerships between the school district and the local business community.

“Our students and educators continue to demonstrate the excellence, resilience and leadership that make Atlantic City proud,” Small said. “We are grateful to the Metropolitan Business & Citizens Association for investing in the future of our young people and recognizing the hard work of those who inspire achievement every day in our schools.”

The MBCA includes 12 casinos, more than 350 local businesses, approximately 50 nonprofit organizations and more than 100 individual citizens. The organization says its mission is centered on supporting and strengthening the greater Atlantic City community through civic engagement, education and collaboration.

Students and educators from several area school districts were recognized during the luncheon, which also featured keynote remarks from Dr. Barbara Gaba, president of Atlantic Cape Community College, who is scheduled to retire in June.
