ATLANTIC CITY — The annual Ratha Yatra festival was celebrated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, drawing devotees and visitors to the city's historic Boardwalk for a day of faith, culture and community.
Organized by ISKCON of Central New Jersey, the festival featured worship of Lord Jagannath, Harinam Sankirtan (devotional chanting), prayers for world peace and well-being, traditional dancing and the ceremonial chariot procession.

From early morning, the Boardwalk came alive with the footsteps of devotees gathering for the event. The melodic chanting of “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, Hare Rama” drifted through the air, rising above the sounds of waves rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean and creating a spiritual atmosphere along the beachfront.

As the day progressed, the crowd of devotees continued to grow. The moment worshippers began pulling the ropes attached to Lord Jagannath’s chariot, the wheels started turning and the procession moved forward. Accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of drums, khol and mridanga instruments, thousands of voices joined together in devotional chants, creating a powerful and uplifting musical experience.

The procession began at Michigan Avenue and traveled along the Boardwalk toward New Jersey Avenue. As the chariot moved slowly forward, the procession of devotees stretched farther and farther behind it. Tourists and visitors strolling along the Boardwalk stopped to admire the colorful and unique celebration.
Many visitors enthusiastically joined the procession, adding their voices to the chanting despite unfamiliar pronunciations. Devotees danced, sang and celebrated together throughout the route. Fruits, sweets and a variety of prasadam, or blessed food offerings, were distributed among participants and spectators alike. International visitors and passersby were also invited to partake in the offerings.
When the procession reached New Jersey Avenue, participants found another celebration already underway. An open-air stage featured devotional music, Harinam Sankirtan and the continued distribution of mahaprasad.
People from all backgrounds and faiths took part in the festivities and enjoyed the communal meal. Many visitors patiently waited in long lines to receive mahaprasad, while others expressed curiosity about the traditions of Ratha Yatra and learned more about the festival and its spiritual significance.
Ratha Yatra has been celebrated in Atlantic City since 2006, and organizers say the event continues to grow each year. As the sun began to set over the Atlantic Ocean, the day’s festivities gradually came to a close.
Carrying with them cherished memories of colorful scenes, devotional music and community fellowship, devotees departed for home after another successful celebration of Lord Jagannath’s Ratha Yatra.
