Atlantic City Native Named Director of Public Library

ATLANTIC CITY — The Atlantic City Free Public Library has a new leader at its helm. The Board of Trustees has appointed Jacqueline Silver-Morillo as library director, effective Monday, Aug. 4, 2025.

“I’m honored to step into the role of Library Director in the city where I was born, raised, and where my roots run deep — a place that shaped who I am and still holds my family today,” said Silver-Morillo.

A lifelong Atlantic City resident, Silver-Morillo brings a deep connection to the community and nearly a decade of library experience to the role. She began her journey with the library in 2014 as an intern in the Alfred M. Heston Room, home to the city’s archives. Since then, she has served as archivist, senior librarian, and supervised the Main Library Help Desk and IT Department. She also co-curated the library’s Atlantic City Experience exhibits at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

“For 120 years, the library has been a cornerstone of our community," Silver-Morillo said. "I’m committed to building on that legacy by deepening our connection with the people we serve — through meaningful outreach and programs that respond to what our community truly needs.”

Among her notable accomplishments is the creation of the Atlantic City Heritage Collections Digital Repository. Funded by a more than $120,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the project digitized extensive African-American history collections from Atlantic City, making them available to the public online at any time.

With a passion for preserving local history and making resources accessible, Silver-Morillo is expected to continue advancing the library’s mission to serve the diverse needs of Atlantic City’s residents.
