Atlantic City Launches $2.3 Million Gardner’s Basin Improvement Project
New public restrooms, a boaters’ shower room and parking upgrades are planned for the waterfront destination ahead of summer 2027.
ATLANTIC CITY — Construction is underway on a $2.3 million improvement project at Gardner’s Basin that will add public restrooms, a shower room for boaters and upgrades to parking and pedestrian areas, city officials announced.
Mayor Marty Small Sr. joined city leaders and project contractors for a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 14, 2026, at the waterfront destination.

The new public comfort station, located just off the seawall, will include accessible men’s and women’s restrooms with multiple stalls, a family restroom and a shower room equipped with a combination lock for boaters.

The grant-funded project also includes landscaping and a new irrigation system. The seawall parking lot and the street between the lot and the Atlantic City Aquarium will be paved. New curbing and sidewalks will also be installed.
All work is expected to be completed by the start of the 2027 summer season, officials said in a prepared statement.
“The Small Administration continues to make improvements in every section of the Great City of Atlantic City, and that includes the gem that is Gardner’s Basin,” Small said. “Gardner’s Basin is an important destination for our residents and visitors, and we wanted to give this area the additional care and attention it deserves. People have been asking for improvements like this for a long time, and we’re proud to deliver.”

Weatherby Construction Corporation is the project contractor, and Arthur Ponzio Co. designed the project. The city’s Engineering Office is overseeing the work.
The project follows other improvements at Gardner’s Basin in recent years, including interior and exterior renovations and repairs that preceded the reopening of the Atlantic City Aquarium.
According to the city, other completed work includes the Maine Avenue Promenade, pier and piling replacements, dredging, new lighting and signage, and electric vehicle charging stations.
This summer, the Gardner’s Basin seawall also became one of two locations in Atlantic City where licensed and approved food trucks can operate in designated areas.
