Donald Harris, director of secondary education, praised the honorees for their achievements and example. “You are the role models for our entire student body, and your dedication does not go unnoticed,” said Harris. “To our new inductees, congratulations. This is a significant milestone and a testament to your hard work, thirst for knowledge, and your commitment to making a positive impact.”
Special Guest
Virginia Gormley, wife of former Republican State Sen. William L. Gormley, R-Atlantic, delivered an inspiring keynote address. She encouraged students to appreciate their alma mater and highlighted notable figures who have shared NHS values—including NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, concert pianist Van Cliburn, and beloved children’s television host Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
“In so many ways, Atlantic City High School made me who I am today,” Gormley said. “I know that all of you appreciate the academics—but also the diversity and the cultural differences. This is actually the real world.”
She reminded students of their responsibility to lead with integrity and serve with humility. “You were chosen for demonstrating leadership, character, and outreach to others,” she said.
The Candle-Lighting Tradition
One of the most symbolic moments of the evening was the candle-lighting ceremony, where outgoing officers reflected on each of the NHS pillars before passing their leadership roles to the incoming 2025–2026 chapter officers.
Character
Outgoing Chapter President Zuzanna Turska spoke about the importance of character in shaping compassionate and ethical leaders.
Incoming President Sumaiya Tabassum lit the candle for character.
Scholarship
Outgoing Vice President Saniya Ishpriya reflected on the transformative power of education and curiosity.
Incoming Vice President Alfi Nashia lit the candle for scholarship.
Leadership
Outgoing Secretary Tanzia Choudhury emphasized the courage and integrity needed to lead effectively.
Incoming Secretary Sumaya Sahabuddin lit the leadership candle.
Service
Outgoing Treasurer Reed Burns spoke about the joy and responsibility of serving others.
Incoming Treasurer Shrayon Chowdhury lit the candle for service.
A Night of Reflection and Unity
The induction ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the values that define the National Honor Society and the bright future ahead for its members. Families, teachers, and peers showed overwhelming pride as the new inductees took their pledge. “As you take this pledge today, you are not just joining an organization—you are becoming part of a legacy of excellence,” Harris said. “Challenge yourselves, embrace this opportunity, and continue to strive for greatness in all that you do.”
Looking Ahead
The evening closed with a spirit of hope and anticipation. Many of the inductees are preparing for the next chapter of their lives, and Harris acknowledged their balance of academic rigor, extracurricular involvement, and community service.
“See the list of schools that these graduates are attending—it’s phenomenal. Your journey through Atlantic City High School is nearing its end, and what a journey it has been," Harris said. "As you prepare to embark on your next adventure—whether in higher education or the workforce—know that the lessons you’ve learned and the values you’ve embodied as a National Honor Society Member will serve you well. We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and excited to see the amazing things that you will achieve. Please know that you will always be part of the Atlantic City High School family.”
