Gormley, of Margate, represented the United States as a member of the Junior National Team.

“It was pretty impressive,” said Atlantic City Public Schools Athletic Director Chris Ford. “To see one of our former athletes compete on that level was great. I would not be shocked if she competed in the 2028 Summer Olympics.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. La’Quetta S. Small praised Gormley’s achievement, noting that it reflects both individual determination and the district’s commitment to excellence.
“Lexi’s silver medal is a testament to her hard work, discipline, and dedication,” Dr. Small said. “She is an outstanding example for our students, showing them that with perseverance and passion, they can compete – and succeed – on the world stage. We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in the future.”

Team USA started the race slowly, keeping pace with the pack, but surged later, climbing from sixth place to second. Great Britain took gold with a time of 6:47.87, followed by the United States at 6:49.50. Romania finished third at 6:51.05.

“I’m super proud,” Ford added, recalling the countless hours he has seen Gormley training on the school’s rowing equipment. “I wonder if she knows how many miles she’s done on that Erg machine. It feels like a million, but I don’t know what it would actually be.”

Gormley also found success last year, winning a bronze medal at the World U-19 Championships in St. Catharines, Canada, as part of Team USA.
