On what would have been his late wife Mona’s birthday, legendary comedy club owner Roderick “Mr. Rod” Millwood brought her dream back to life—this time on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

The Laff House, a storied venue known for launching stars like Kevin Hart and Sheryl Underwood, officially reopened April 1, 2025, inside ACX1 Studios at The Pier at Caesars.

“Tonight is very special,” Millwood said. “We’re celebrating her life and everything we built.”

Hosted by comic David Raibon and headlined by Emmy Award-winner Sheryl Underwood, the “Comedy Homecoming” grand opening honored Mona’s legacy and spotlighted Black comedic talent.

Mayor Marty Small Sr. welcomed the Laff House to town, praising Millwood’s commitment to bringing fresh entertainment to Atlantic City. “People like that could go anywhere—but he chose here,” the mayor said.

Millwood’s mission? To create an affordable, high-quality venue where both rising and established comedians can shine.

The Laff House Atlantic City now features a lounge, gift shop, food by celebrity Chef Patrick, and a weekly lineup of stand-up acts.

“This is my new home,” Millwood said. “And we’re going to have some fun.”
